The story of Kissey Asplund and her somewhatstrangelife is like a blueprint of music in the modern age. Based in Sweden, (one foot in Malmoe, the other in Stockholm) the story begins when Kissey set up a myspace account in 2005 on the advice of a friend...
Before long, she was hooking up with some of the freshest and most innovative producers around the globe, collaborating with Pablo Sanchez, KidKanevil, Aaron Jerome (BBE), Dj Hen Boogie, Vince Vargas, Rustie, O.boogie, Flyphonic, Dyno, Chief and Sene, KIT and many more, without ever meeting some of them, all of them recogising Kissey's sweet jazz tones and unique style.
It was when Kissey linked with Papa Jazz Crew from Paris that something clicked. They started producing what they called 'Kissey Beats', kind of electronic/hip-hop/soul/jazz with a knowledge of the past, yet with a fresh future twist. The album "Plethora'' was born, and is due for release in March 2008 on R2 Records.
Kissey then began performing live at various festivals in Sweden, initially with a DJ and then putting together a three piece band. They recently performed at the Raw Fusion party in Stockholm to launch the debut 7' single 'With You', which received an amazing response.
Soon she'll be visiting the netherlands to perform at the hommage to Detroit event ÓRefreshing soundsÓ in Amsterdam and Rotterdam.
ÐWith YouÓ has had support from a whole host of radio and club Djs including Gilles Peterson, (Radio 1), Marc Mac, (4Hero), and Osunlade, (Yoruba Soul Radio), (full reaction list attached) and has had to be re-pressed.
